So, it’s not news that we are on lock-down. In my state, Rivers state Nigeria, this is the second phase of a complete lock-down. Rumour has it that it is going to last for 21 days from when it started and it started on Monday 17th April 2020. We can only hope and pray things can return to normal soon. When I am talking about soon, I am praying with a date in mind and it 19th of June 2020 (you can join me in praying toward this day, remember what the Bible says about 2 (two) chasing 10,000 right). Lol!

This is the third day of lock-down and I thought to myself “Why don’t you start a challenge, something you enjoy doing, something from the regular and trending content you see every time on the internet” then I thought about the 21 days of gratefulness challenge.

This challenge aims to appreciate God for everything and a particular thing every day within these 21 days. These might be regular things but they create a huge impact on our lives.

Since today is day 1, why don’t I just get to it?

DAY 1 — GRATEFUL FOR GADGETS

Today I am grateful for my gadgets (mobile phone/smartphone and laptop). I realised how important my smartphone was after I got off a phone call this afternoon with a friend. So I called this friend and in course of our discussion, he said he explained that he didn’t have my phone number again because his phone got bad (screen issues) and was only able to recognise that he was talking with me because of my voice (I have a unique voice though). This happened over the weekend (Saturday) and he hasn’t been able to fix it because of the lock-down. He can’t come online and he lost some contacts cause some of them were stored on his mobile phone since the SIM (Subscriber Identification Module)card has a limited amount of numbers it can contain. He was lucky to get a smaller phone without an internet connection to insert the SIM that enabled him to just take calls. Well, I sure felt bad for him (I didn’t make him feel worse but tried talking positively to make him feel better) because, in these times when you can’t predict anything, it’s a huge challenge.

Today I am very grateful for my smartphone and laptop. That I have them is one thing and that they are in good working condition is another and I am grateful for all that, I mean very grateful. Imagine not being able to do the things you do every day with your phones and laptop. No browsing, taking photos, creating content, reading articles, social media, research, etc. its too much to imagine honestly. Some people have created wealth on their gadgets while others just stay sane accessing content with them. I don’t want to sound like an addict and all but going through life without these gadgets would be cool at all. I, for example cannot deal with it. I am grateful that they are in good working conditions especially in these times. They might not be the best brands out there but you have them and you should be grateful for that. It doesn’t matter how much you bought them, be grateful that you can afford it.

So, instead of throwing it around carelessly, handle it with care, appreciate it (not worship it please!).

Take good care of it by charging it when necessary, disconnect the chargers when they are fully charged don’t always drain the battery life before you power it.

Place them on the right surfaces (please don’t place hard/strong items on them because they are fragile).

Use a clean cloth to wipe the surface daily. Try taking a selfie (using your front camera) and if its blur, that’s a reminder to clean.

Please keep them away from water, please keep your smartphones out of the bathroom/toilet. It may be tempting to text/tweet, some persons get creative in the toilet but it’s not a good idea.

Take care of your power pack (you don’t want them to get spoilt in these times).

Try applying these few tips listed above and you’d be glad you did.

And finally, be thankful that you have a gadget. You might own just a smartphone, laptop, tablet, kindle, iPad or even all right now. Think about the little things you do or achieve with it and don’t take it for granted.

You can join the challenge too by dropping a comment about something your are grateful for today.

Stay connected cause I’d be dropping another article here tomorrow. Stay safe, stay protected.
